Adding a Hyperlink

You can link to an outside website or another page on your own website by following these steps for creating a hyperlink:

  1. Select the interior page or post where you’d like to add a link.
  2. Add any relevant text to the page. For example, you may want to link to an outside interview: Read John Smith’s latest interview with Forbes Magazine. (Note: if you are copying and pasting, make sure to select “Paste as Text” before pasting – see “Pasting as Text.”)
  3. Open a new tab on your browser while keeping open the page you’re currently editing.
  4. Go to the exact page to which you’d like to link.
  5. Highlight and copy the URL from the browser address bar.
  6. Return to the WordPress page you are editing.
  7. Highlight the word or words that you’d like to use for your hyperlink.
  8. On the toolbar, click on the “insert/edit link” button, which is the chain icon on the top row of your toolbar.
  9. Paste the URL into the field that pops up.
  10. Click the gear icon (“Link Options”) to the right of where you just pasted the URL.
  11. In the box that pops up, check off “open link in a new tab.”
  12. Click on the blue button at the bottom of the box (“Add Link” or “Update”).
  13. Update your page.
  14. Click on “View page” and check your link to make sure it is operating properly.
