Adding a Hyperlink
You can link to an outside website or another page on your own website by following these steps for creating a hyperlink:
- Select the interior page or post where you’d like to add a link.
- Add any relevant text to the page. For example, you may want to link to an outside interview: Read John Smith’s latest interview with Forbes Magazine. (Note: if you are copying and pasting, make sure to select “Paste as Text” before pasting – see “Pasting as Text.”)
- Open a new tab on your browser while keeping open the page you’re currently editing.
- Go to the exact page to which you’d like to link.
- Highlight and copy the URL from the browser address bar.
- Return to the WordPress page you are editing.
- Highlight the word or words that you’d like to use for your hyperlink.
- On the toolbar, click on the “insert/edit link” button, which is the chain icon on the top row of your toolbar.
- Paste the URL into the field that pops up.
- Click the gear icon (“Link Options”) to the right of where you just pasted the URL.
- In the box that pops up, check off “open link in a new tab.”
- Click on the blue button at the bottom of the box (“Add Link” or “Update”).
- Update your page.
- Click on “View page” and check your link to make sure it is operating properly.
